Hampton Township is a North Hills township bordered by Richland, West Deer, Indiana Township, Shaler and McCandless. Its early settlement was called Tally Cavey, and the township was created in 1861 from parts of McCandless, Indiana and West Deer. Route 8 and Mt. Royal Boulevard are the main roads, and most addresses here use Allison Park.
Hampton grew slowly for a century, then quickly: from under 1,000 people in 1870 to more than 10,000 by 1960 and about 18,500 today. That growth left a mix of mid-century homes and newer neighborhoods, most of them single-family houses on hilly lots. Mid-century homes often need extra time on original bathrooms and trim, while newer homes need open kitchens and family rooms kept up.
