O'Hara Township sits about 6 miles northeast of downtown Pittsburgh and is one of the more unusual townships around: it is split into five separate pieces, including Sixmile Island, with Fox Chapel, Aspinwall and Sharpsburg in between. Named for General James O'Hara, it is home to the RIDC O'Hara Research and Business Park and the Bayernhof Music Museum, and its students attend the Fox Chapel Area schools.
O'Hara's neighborhoods range from older homes close to the Allegheny River communities of Aspinwall, Sharpsburg and Blawnox to larger houses on the hills toward Fox Chapel and Indiana Township. Many homes have finished basements, hardwood floors and wooded lots that bring pollen and leaves inside.
